History

As paper documents swamped corporate America
in the 1980s, the notion that these paper documents could be managed
as electronic images or files took hold. Capturing document images
and subsequently managing those files with specialized software and
systems has blossomed into a variety of disciplines collectively
thought of as document management or electronic content management.
During those early days, Philip Hodge, then a CIO and a CPA,
recognized the opportunity presented by this nascent technology and
a vision took shape. He realized that one size could not really fit
all, especially when it applied to handling business critical
financial documents like sales tax exemption certificates. |
Phil conceived and developed imaging software that specifically
helped businesses manage their sales tax exemption certificates
including their existing paper files and regain control of their
tax audit strategy. Headquartered in Hudson, Ohio, and
established as an S Corporation in 1994, OfficeMax became its
first major client and ISSI was born.
As the business of taxation grew more complex and invasive while
regulatory compliance, like Sarbanes-Oxley, grew more
burdensome, ISSI expanded its offerings as it prospered. With an
array of software products and services, ISSI has grown beyond
its retail and distribution roots and now serves the
manufacturing, healthcare, legal, insurance, and real estate
markets. |

Founder
Phil Hodge,
President, started Imaging Science and Services, Inc. in 1994. He was previously employed as CIO of Central Reserve Life, and has managed systems design and development for over 25 years in a variety of industries including retail, wholesale, financial services and manufacturing. He is a nationally recognized speaker on the business case for digital imaging systems. Phil holds a BS in accounting with a minor in computer information systems from Cleveland State University, where he also completed several post-graduate courses. He is a certified public accountant (CPA), a member of the Association of Systems Management, and past member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Phil has completed certification work in Microsoft and the Risk Institute of Management Science (RIMS). Early in his career, Phil served with the United States Marine Corps from 1968-1970 as a military guard including serving as a part of the presidential guard detail for President Nixon (1969-1970). He was promoted meritoriously three times and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. His civic and community activities include volunteering with community youth programs, member and past president of the Bedford Lions Club and assisting in helping place recent college graduates in a mentoring program (Getting Started). He also served as a foreman on the Federal Grand Jury (87-5G) chairing cases of general crimes and certain organized crimes. |
